For Children

Programs and services especially for children.

The library has a room just for kids located on the lower level!
Inside the Children's Room you will find a reading loft, children's furniture, a mobile listening station, a children's computer center, puzzles, games, and many materials available for borrowing, including board books, readers, easy and juvenile fiction & nonfiction materials, games, puppets, video tapes, DVDs, books on tape, books on CD, magazines, book buddies (character with a book), early learning packs, and parenting materials.

The room has its own circulation desk, a public catalog computer for library patrons to search for materials, and 3 children's computers for kids to play fun and educational games, do research, or write papers.

Story Times
Story Times for kids are offered by the Children's Department in the fall, winter, and spring months.  Lasting 30-45 minutes, Story Times may include reading books aloud, playing games, doing activities, singing songs, having a snack, and receiving take home projects.  Parents, grandparents, and caregivers are all encouraged to bring children to Story Time.

Summer Reading Program
Every summer the Children's Department offers a Summer Reading Program.  There are reading logs for kids to keep track of their reading minutes, prizes to encourage and reward reading, age-specific activities for fun and learning, and special programs to highlight the summer's theme.   A calendar of events is generally available by the first part of June.

We have compiled some links to websites that are designed for kids.  Click here to check them out!
